Avon Business Centre welcomed representatives from various local retailers and services yesterday to a Shirley Town Team evening networking session in our large reception lobby area. The sheer number of participants forced us to use the lobby, rather than our boardroom, where they might have felt a little snug!
Alison Read of Decisions by Design spoke first to encourage retailers to increase their footfall with targeted marketing strategies. This is something that many shops in Shirley are doing already, with Halloween and Easter treasure trails encouraging young people and their families into shops that they are perhaps unfamiliar with. We were left to ask ourselves, How can you make sure that visitors to your retail offering avoid the phrase ‘I didn’t know you were here?’
We were then given an introduction to changes regarding business rates from the Income and Awards Team of Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council. The new changes and exemptions are aimed at encouraging the use of vacant space in retail units, and for business growth, as well as allowing 12 monthly payments, rather than 10 monthly payments, easing budget restrictions of smaller or newly established businesses. You can find out more about Solihull business rates by clicking here.
Many thanks to all those who came along, all members of the local business community. We hope that you are able to visit us here at Avon Business Centre soon!
